CYSTISTAT®, Chronic cystitis with bladder disorders

Cystistat® is a medical device for the temporary replacement of the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer in the bladder to alleviate symptoms associated with cystitis and bladder disorders as Bladder Pain Syndrome/Interstitial Cystitis (BPS/IC), Recurrent Bacterial Cystitis (RBC) or Radiation-Induced Cystitis (RIC).

Cystistat® has been developed to temporarily replenish the deficient GAG layer on the bladder epithelium. Cystistat® is instilled into the bladder to alleviate symptoms associated with cystitis. The direct contact of the urine irritants, cytotoxic drugs and bacterial adherence with the subepithelial layers in the bladder can activate fibers responsible for neuronal hypersensitivity that leads to: Bladder pain, irritation, pressure, discomfort or other unpleasant sensation related to the urinary bladder; a frequent (frequency) and an urgent, overwhelming (urgency) need to urinate. Its symptoms can be very distressing and impact significantly the quality of life.10

Cystistat® contains a highly purified sodium salt of hyaluronic acid (HA) produced by fermentation. HA plays a vital role in extracellular matrix homeostasis, wound healing, and tissue regeneration.15 Cystistat® has a wide range of published papers supporting the treatment of cystitis. Its efficacy has been described in: Bladder Pain Syndrome / Interstitial Cystitis (BPS/IC)1 , Recurrent Bacterial Cystitis (RBC) by the protection of the urothelium5,6 or Radiation-induced cystitis (RIC) 7,11

Cystistat® has a regenerative role of the GAG layer in the bladder * 1,9
